Green Digital Twin for Organizations as Enabler for Carbon Management

Publikation: KonferenzbeitragPaper

Abstract

In the pursuit of realising the twin green and digital transition of the European economy, the continuous development of new concepts is playing an increasingly important role. On the one hand, various digital methods and technologies are emerging at a tremendous speed in the course of the digital transformation. On the other hand, already proven approaches but also new concepts are being continuously developed in the course of the green transformation. Leveraging both leads to a novel and scientifically relatively unexplored concept of Green Digital Twins (GDTs) which not only combines the two well-known and hereinafter equally adopted concepts of digital twins (DTs) with life cycle assessments (LCAs), but also provides companies new strategic opportunities in decision-making and value creation. This paper introduces this novel concept of GDTs and presents a staged development path (SDP) for GDTs to further apply a carbon management maturity assessment (CMMA) in the near future.
