Advanced Tactile Sensor Solution with Spline Surface Interpolation for Robotics

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

Tactile sensor solutions are becoming increasingly important for advancing robotic applications in industry and commercial settings, facilitating precise and reliable detection of touch, as well as the perception of contact forces and grip dynamics during object handling and interaction. In this study, we present a novel tactile sensor solution that leverages spline-base surface interpolation to enhance the measurement quality of contact force distributions within a tactile sensor cell array. The results demonstrate substantial improvements in estimating contact force distribution, with enhanced interpretability regarding grip quality, shape and geometry recognition of manipulated objects. These advancements hold significant potential for improving robotic material handling and gripping operations.
