Abstract

In a lightweight packaging sorting plant (LWP sorting plant) are modifications to machine parameter configurations essential for adjustments and optimizations prior to day-to-day operation of the near-infrared sorting machines (NIR sorting machines). For this purpose, weekly manual sorting samples are taken from the plant, sorted and evaluated to verify these setting changes and therefore the quality of the various product fractions. The goal of this master¿s thesis is to continuously analyse the composition of recyclable materials using an additional NIR camera positioned above the conveyor belt of the residual sorting stream in order to identify deficiencies in the NIR sorting of the plant individual fractions and improve the purity of the residual stream by reducing the amount of recyclables. In addition, information on changes to the machine parameters of the NIR sorting machines can be quickly captured by detecting changes in the composition of recyclable materials in the residual stream. To support the sensor-based material flow characterization (SBMC) analysis results ¿ in addition to the weekly sampling of the sorting residual stream ¿ daily samples are taken from the incoming residue stream and sorted to identify materials affecting sorting quality within the plant and to evaluate the composition of the sorting residue stream. Furthermore, the detectable and undetectable characteristics of NIR analysis are listed, the impact of changes in machine parameter configurations using examples is presented, and the comparability of continuous NIR analysis with daily and weekly manual sorting of the residual stream from a sorting plant is illustrated. In this context, a maximum difference of 8 m% was observed between NIR analysis and manual sorting of the residual content in the residual stream.
