Abstract
This thesis presents a systematic analysis aimed at reducing downtime, changeover times, and idle times in the packaging processes of Obst Gößl Handelsgesellschaft m.b.H. The company, based in Styria, specializes in industrial fruit packaging. The subject of the investigation is the apple cup product family, which is packaged using so-called Blitzmatic machines. The focus of this thesis lies on the practical part, which includes the execution of a Value Stream Mapping (VSM) analysis, a Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) analysis, and a calculation of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). The first part of the practical work consists of creating a Value Stream Map, in which the entire value stream is recorded ¿ from retrieval out of the high-bay warehouse, through packaging, to the transport of finished pallets to the dispatch area. In this context, the process bottleneck is identified, and the customer takt time is determined over the observation period and analyzed with regard to seasonal fluctuations. Through a systematic SMED analysis, the existing changeover procedures are examined for optimization potential. Measures to reduce changeover times are derived by converting internal into external setup activities, utilizing functions already available within the equipment, and developing a standardized changeover procedure. In addition, overall equipment effectiveness is assessed in a structured manner through an OEE calculation. The analysis focuses on the components of availability and performance, highlighting the major sources of losses and their possible causes. Finally, targeted improvement measures are derived from the results of the analyses. Particular attention is given to the organizational and technical framework conditions that enable a sustainable implementation of the identified potentials. In addition to the SMED-related improvements, these include the standardization of the packaging lines and the introduction of shopfloor management (SFM). Through this methodical approach, a fundamental action plan for reducing idle times in industrial fruit packaging is developed for Obst Gößl Handelsgesellschaft m.b.H.
