Abstract

At voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace GmbH & Co KG, titanium alloys, high-alloy steels and nickel-based superalloys are mostly processed into high-quality aircraft parts by multi-stage forming processes. A numerical simulation is used for the design of components. This offers the possibility to optimize the process within the given windows defined by the aggregates and materials and to obtain information about the expected microstructure and component strength even before the first component tests. In order to further increase energy efficiency by reducing forging forces or saving furnace times, a universal coating agent is currently being used, independent of material and process. In order to significantly improve the forming process, several coating agents are being investigated on a laboratory scale in the course of this work. Their influence on production parameters such as friction coefficient, diffusion resistance and insulation capacity will be analyzed. Finally, models for the layer thickness sensitivity are derived from this. The findings on the properties of different coating agents are implemented as a model in the simulation software DEFORM™.
