Abstract
The convergence confinement method can be used as an aid in the design of underground excavations in order to determine the rock mass behaviour and system behaviour. By combining the so called ground characteristic curve, the longitudinal displacement profile and the support characteristic curve support requirements are ascertained. In the present study several theories for the calculation of the characteristic curves were gathered and possible combinations are shown. Furthermore basics for time-dependent rock mass and support behaviour are content of this work.
