Abstract
In-pit Crushing and Conveying (IPCC) system has received renewed interest in mining operation recently. This is because mining companies are facing more challenging work situation emerged because of the increasing prices on diesel fuel and tires for mining truck due to limited supply. That situation has led manufacturers to focus on IPCC development and improvement in order to offer a more competitive IPCC system. Fixed IPCC system is considered to be the preferable option for coal mining application in Indonesia eventhough semi-mobile IPCC offers more advantages compared with fixed IPCC system. This is because fixed IPCC system offers high degree of flexibility which is very important in coal mining operation due to the nature of coal deposits and market requirement. Fixed IPCC also require less initial capital cost because of less conveyor installation in the system. With fixed system, change in the operation and employment reduction can be managed gradually to prevent resistance from the stakeholders of the mine operation. There are big opportunities for the implementation of IPCC system in coal mining operations in Indonesia. However there is just one IPCC system installation in PT Adaro Indonesia, located in Tanjung Tabalong, South Kalimantan. The fixed IPCC system in Adaro will definitely become reference for other prospectus users of IPCC system and potentially drive them to use the same design that proposed by the same supplier. Therefore Sandvik should be able to propose a more competitive IPCC system concept design that can meet their expectation in terms of economical and technical aspects and drive them to select IPCC system offering from Sandvik. Sandvik is definitely more competitive than other competitors in Indonesia because Sandvik provide complete offering in IPCC equipment and has been well known in Indonesia for its high quality and reliable products with strong presence in excellent after sales support. Sandvik just need to empower this capacity and capability to design a more competitive IPCC system design and offering, and define a more competitive strategy to penetrate the IPCC system market, in order to grab more than USD 600 million potential business opportunities of IPCC system in Indonesia.
