Abstract
Iron ore sinter possesses strong heterogeneous characteristics which clearly influence the materials breakage behaviour. Up to now, a vast amount of sinter-particles break during handling and transport activities where the smaller fractions (< 6,3mm) finally are not suitable for the blast furnace process. For analysing the breakage behaviour of iron ore sinter, a test rig for rapid single particle impact tests with integrated fragment analysis was developed in the working group Conveying Technology and Design Methods at the Chair of Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics. The present thesis deals with the automated particle feeding of the test rig. The aim of this work was to develop a device which will separate and align the single particles of a bulk of sinter, and finally load the separated items one after the other automatically into the test chamber of the air-cannon. To avoid damage of the automated particle-feeding device, every step of the process has to be controlled by implemented mechanical pathways as well as infrared- and laser sensors. The overall aim of the effort was to speed up the testing with high reproducibility, while at the same time ensuring, that the unshaped sinter-particles will not be damaged before their testing procedure in the air-cannon. The outflow of a literature survey pinpointed a pre-selection of construction elements needed. These components have been produced and tested independently and have been attached to the existing test rig after confirmed accuracy. For better handling of the complex assignment, a breakdown to problem areas, dealing with particle separation, particle loading and controlling features, were implemented. In comparison to manual test rig loading, the finally constructed and implemented system was able to speed up the handling of test series with large sample quantities, to guarantee a sufficient reproducibility and to secure the testing procedure for essential parts against damage and brake downs.
