Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to characterize the hydrogeological situation in the region of Wildbad Einöd using borehole measurements. Data were gathered during two logging campaigns: the first one was carried out right after the drilling process, while simultaneous measurements were conducted after a long period of equilibration. An overview of the geology along with the hydrogeological and hydrological features and regional fault systems is provided. Selected boreholes are used to investigate what geological information can be received using borehole measurements. It was found that using only a gamma log no reliable lithologic information can be inferred and further measurements sensitive to grain size would be recommendable. With the help of the simultaneous measurements, a water classification according to fluid temperature and fluid conductivity is established for Wildbad Einöd. Generally, two distinct groups of water can be differentiated: a cooler one with less mineralization and a warmer one showing higher mineralization. With respect to this grouping, possible flow paths and the regional distribution of the two types of water in the boreholes were investigated and porosity was calculated using resistivity measurements. Furthermore, pump tests and the fluid logging data of the first measurement campaign of two representative boreholes were reinterpreted. As a result, a porosity varying between 2 and 20 % according to rock type was found. Sulfidic ores present in the formation influence the resistivity measured and thus the porosity calculated. The distribution of fluid temperature in the boreholes is controlled by fractures, peaty to silty layers and the rocks slide material of the Groberberg. Warmer water is rising in fractured zones related to the Olsa fault. These hydraulically active zones can also be identified on scans of the borehole wall.
