Abstract
Nowadays, the design of tunnel linings is done with the help of numerical simulation programs. A cross-section of the tunnel Dernbach that is part of the high-speed line Cologne/Frankfurt am Main is modeled using a finite element program. Furthermore, the distribution of the internal forces for bending and normal forces in the linings are calculated. The modeling of the contact between the rock mass and the primary lining as well as the primary lining and the secondary lining is described in detail. In addition different design standards for determining the required minimum reinforcement are used. The development of the numerical model with the essential input parameters for the analyzed cross-section and the output options of the simulation results are explained step by step. The results of the numerical simulation are compared with the preliminary structural calculations of 1998. This structural design of the secondary lining was made according to DIN 1045:1988-07 and DIN 1045/A1:1996-12. The comparison of the results regarding the internal forces and loads shows very similar outcomes.
