In this diploma thesis, the remaining residual stresses in the insert moulding process are calculated. The component is a fitting. The insert is made of brass and is overmoulded with the polymer grade PP RA130E. The influence of the insert geometry, as well as the process parameters on the simulated stresses at the contact area between the brass insert and the plastic part is determined. Based on the results it is possible to draw conclusions about the adhesive strength and embedding. Moldflow Plastics Insight 6.1 Revision 1 (MPI) was used for the simulation of the injection-moulding process. The calculation of the Mises stress was performed by Abaqus 6.6-1. There were three different insert geometries used for the calculations. Based on the calculation results, the aim was a design recommendation with focus on the tightness of the metal-plastic hybrid structure. An additionally performed parameter study showed the following trends: a higher level of holding pressure, a lower melt temperature and a higher preheating temperature of the insert lead to lower stress results. The influence decreases corresponding to the sequence of process parameters listed. The preheating of the insert plays a negligible role for the Mises stress.
