    Abstract

    To protect the environment and its inhabitants as best as possible, laws were passed, which define rules and measures for how to treat and dispose of WEEEs (waste electrical and electronic equipment) correctly. These laws state specific recycling and thermal recovery rates which have to be met for refrigerators. AHT Cooling Systems GmbH is the manufacturer of such equipment and needs exact figures for the recycling and thermal recovery rates for the model “ATHEN XL ECO 210 AD”. These rates should be determined by an independent institution. Apart from the investigation of the legal situation on national and international levels, the monetary analysis of the refrigerator recycling and the preliminary concept for the disassembling of the refrigeration unit, this thesis comprises the step-by-step dismantling of the unit as well as the balance of materials necessary for the determination of the reuse, recycling and thermal recovery rates. Based on the information of the rates for the single parts, materials and substances, the total rates for the unit can be determined.
