Abstract

In this work an overview about the most important influences in the production of different plastic bottle types on the fracture resistance was created. By means of discussions with experienced staff parameters which influence the drop tests were collected and questioned. In the sector of drop test device and production (extrusion blow molding machine) a cause and effect diagram was used. By means of the R&D group known and new parameters were investigated. Computer simulations were used to prove more theories of the fracture resistance. One of these computer simulations investigated the effects of the positions of “kiss points”. The simulation showed that higher positions of the “kiss points” lead to a lower stress level in this area. A comparison between real and simulated drop tests showed that the results of both tests matched. All collected parameters were divided in different categories according to their ascendancy. This assessment demonstrated the influences which have a high effect on the fracture resistance of extrusions blow molded plastic bottles.
