Abstract
The heat treatable AlMgSi-alloys are widely used for automotive sheet applications due to their excellent combination of strength and formability. In general, the variation of the chemical composition of AlMgSi-alloys causes a great change of the precipitation behaviour in the age-hardening phase Mg2Si. The precipitation characteristics have a big effect on the forming behaviour of automotive body sheets. This work aims to investigate the influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties and on the formability of four different AlMgSi-alloys. Therefore, the mechanical properties were examined with tensile tests and the formability with bending tests, cross-die tests, hole expansion tests and FLC-analysis. The mechanical behaviour was previously determined in the bachelor thesis “Characterisation and tensile test of 6xxx-alloys”, which was conducted at the Chair of Nonferrous Metallurgy at the University of Leoben. Based on these results the alloy EN AW- 6005A has proven to show the best formability and mechanical properties and hence constitutes the best possible material for the use in the automotive industry.
