For about a decade zinc-aluminium-magnesium-alloys are in use for hot-dip-galvanizing. The advantage of these alloys consists primarily in the increased corrosion resistance, which allows the production of components with higher durability, or parts with the same lifetime and considerably reduced coating thickness. Their use also entails an actual reduction of production costs. In this paper the chosen alloys were investigated and tested in galvanizing attempts in cooperation with the company Wuppermann in Judenburg. For this reason, first a literature research of the stage of development for zinc-aluminium-magnesium-alloys was done. Furthermore, for every chosen alloy a calculation with the thermodynamical-software FactSage was performed in order to calculate phase diagrams and phase properties in dependence of temperature. The comparison with the calculated results was carried out by DSC-measurements to compare the theoretical phase transformations with the practical ones. Additionally, melting attempts were done with bench scale testings to investigate densities and melting points or melting intervals of the chosen alloys. Another chapter deals with an evaluation of the chemical properties of the layer on the finished bound. This was realized by a treatment with hydrochloric acid and a subsequent analysis of the compounds.
