Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the conceptual design of a crosshead for foamed cables with a maximum conductor diameter of 25 mm. Particular attention is paid to the foam distributor. To provide adequate distribution behaviour the flow process of a gassed HDPE/LDPE-blend (blowing agent CO2) in the main mandrel distributor is calculated and analyzed. These studies of geometry parameters are carried out using two simulation programs which are based upon the method of finite elements. Required viscosity data for simulation is gained using a by-pass rheometer at the Institute of Plastics Processing at the University of Leoben. Finally the crosshead prototype runs through a testing to review simulation results and to verify if all requested demands are met.
