Abstract

To improve the economical and competetive situation of steel production, the LD converter size increased continuously in the last few decades. To get optimized metallurgical results, blowing parameters have to be adapted to actual converter geometries to cover technical demands. Intention and task of this thesis is to investigate the influence of the vessel geometry of the new converter 8 of voestalpine Stahl Linz GmbH on the metallurgical results. Based on the evaluation of the actual situation, blowing parameters like lance height, lance tip geometry and oxygen flow rate are enquired in several tests series. The influence of these parameters mainly on the phosphorus content in crude steel is described. In further experiments, the effecht of post stirring is investigated. Increasing lance heights and inclination angles of the oxygen jet result in better phosphorus removal. An increase of the oxygen flow rate shortens blowing time significantly. Post stirring also leads to a remarkable reduction of phosphorous in crude steel. Based on these practical results, calculations are done for choosing the correct blowing parameters.
