The materials used in the automotive industry must meet high standards. Components are dyed differently in order to visually distinguish between different connectors or contacts. Traditionally, color masterbatches are used for this purpose, which are added directly to the base polymer during processing on the injection molding machine. In the past, it has already been shown that these have a significant influence on the mechanical properties. In the course of this work, the influence of color masterbatches on the adhesion, electrical properties and flame-retardant properties of various technical base polymers is investigated. In addition to the influence of the content in which the color masterbatch is added, the influence of the carrier material is also investigated in the test plans. To investigate adhesion, half tensile bars are produced according to a test plan, which are overmolded in a second step. The bond strength is determined by means of a tensile test. For the electrical tests, plate-shaped test specimens are produced, whereby the dielectric strength and tracking resistance are tested. Flammability is tested in accordance with UL94 (vertical). In addition to the influence of the color masterbatch content, a full-factorial test plan is set up to investigate the influence of selected process parameters on flammability. The evaluation of the results showed that the color masterbatch has only a subordinate influence on adhesion with the tested contents; flowability and material pairing are more relevant. Both the color, the color masterbatch content and the carrier polymer or the pigments contained had an influence on the electrical properties. Flammability was also found to be dependent on the content and ingredients of the color masterbatch.
