Abstract
The secondary aluminum production gains more and more importance especially in industrial countries. The most important raw material for aluminum recycling is scrap. In some applications decorative or protective coatings are applied, which can also be found on the scrap. These mostly organic coatings affect the melting losses and the dross formation during recycling, so that the aluminum output decreases. Furthermore unwanted emissions can be produced by the pyrolysis gases. The main scope of this work is the determination of the pyrolysis and melting behavior of different scrap samples. Additionally some drying tests were performed to identify the maximum moisture content. The determined data can be used to calculate the overall losses and the dross formation of the tested materials. Finally the results are combined in so called Sankey-diagrams which show the input and output in detail.
