Abstract

The voestalpine Stahl GmbH operates at the site of its iron and steel works in Linz the so-called “Gebläsezentrale 2”. The steam turbine is connected to blast blowers over a shaft in order to provide the cold blast necessary for Austria’s largest blast furnace. The heat required to evaporate the water for the turbine results from the combustion of blast furnace gas. Within the framework of this thesis, the plant is modelled by the use of the program EBSILON® Professional and optimization options are determined and quantified.
