Abstract

The first part of this paper will discuss the basics of electrical energy as well as laws and norms related to industrial energy consumption. Corresponding boundaries and distinctive features will be examined for the energy efficiency law (EEffG) and the ISO 50001. This is followed by a review of different strategic directions and entrepreneurial mindsets based on the operational usage of energy. At the end of the theoretical part, standard energy performance indicators for industrial usage and the fundamentals for an energy monitoring system will be discussed. The second part of this thesis deals with an energy monitoring system and its specifications. The internal energy flow is mapped based on a data ascertainment of input and output variables. Currently used Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs) and calculated consumption variables are checked and verified via validation measurements. In the next step, the energy value for the REMUS Innovation GmbH will be analyzed. Based on this, the energy management organizational form and the basic strategic behaviours are discussed. The energy policy is adapted and operational measures are defined following the strategic orientation. Subsequently, a system of EnPIs is developed, which relates the energetic input variables to defined reference variables. These EnPIs are analyzed concerning their information content and evaluated or ranked accordingly. Finally, the key parameters for successfully implementing an energy monitoring system are discussed. This includes the definition of the communication protocols of the measurement devices, the underlying measurement plan, the required data, and the network topology of the energy monitoring.
