Abstract
Due to the ever continuing dispersion of modern logistics systems in the area of sourcing and procurement, distribution as well as warehousing, containers are increasingly used in the industry. Those containers are used on the one hand for transport and protection of goods and on the other hand for efficient logistical coordination. A couple of problems arise with the usage of containers in practice. Containers are often untraceable, not cleaned, have wrong dimensions and cause high costs. An adequate usage within a defined system is complex and asks for proper coordination. To be able to coordinate the containers and its proper flows the field of application-oriented economics has developed container management for complex requirements. In terms of container steering it offers methods of resolution and procedural methods. The goal of this thesis is to provide the reader of practical and scientific background a decision model that helps to identify the stage of maturity of a corporation in terms of necessary prerequisites towards and implementation of container management in corporations. This decision model is used to support the decision towards an implementation of container management.
