Abstract

This thesis focuses on the development, design and construction of an automated blast furnace sinter sampling device at voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH. First the theory of sinter strength and the sinter mix on conveyor belts will be analyzed. This is vital to interpret the samples of the sinter due to the boundary conditions must not be altered because of the sample taking. Furthermore, the theoretical part of the thesis describes the state of the art in relation to the techniques of bulk sampling. It is important, both, the sinter sample as well as the sinter on the conveyer has to contain almost the same sintered particle size distribution. In order to have a representative sample of the flow rate, discrete element simulations had to be done. Therefore, a suitable spot has to be decided upon the approval of voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH. The sample taking is constructed and designed after deciding on the most fitting sample container. Furthermore, the possibility for having the sample taking fully automated has to be given. The results, construction plans and designing will be handed over to voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH.
