Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to develop a calibration device for the E-PrimeTracker belt monitoring system, which enables the necessary system warning thresholds to be set. E-PrimeTracker is a belt, steering, and misalignment monitoring system marketed by ScrapeTec. It was developed in cooperation with the research group Conveying Technology and Design Methods at the Chair of Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics at Montanuniversität Leoben. Following a thorough review of the requirements and design constraints, various conceptual approaches will be developed. Based on this, a well-founded selection of variants will be carried out to serve as the basis for manufacturing a prototype of the calibration device. To verify the functionality of the calibration device's adjustment mechanism and to test the hypothesis that a steering capability of the conveyor belt can be achieved through the deflection of the E-Prime Tracker roller body, experiments were conducted on the department¿s in-house belt conveyor system. For this purpose, positional reference data of the E-PrimeTracker deflection under the application of eccentric loads were determined in preliminary tests. These data were then used to enable subsequent adjustment using the calibration device. In this context, it was confirmed that when approaching the recorded position without the presence of the external load, an opposite reaction was induced in terms of the lateral running direction of the belt. The determination of the system limits by separate, single-axis deflection parallel and orthogonal to the belt surface led to the result that, during combined displacement in the preliminary tests, higher deflection values along the horizontal axis could be achieved than in the limit tests. From these results, it can be concluded that determining the system limits and defining the warning thresholds solely through deflection along the selected axes is not possible.
