Abstract

The reduction of iron ore fines by means of the fluidized bed technology has become an alternative route of ironmaking. To investigate the reduction behavior of theses ores and to improve fluidized bed processes, a lab scale fluidized bed facility has been installed at the Chair of Metallurgy / Montanuniversitaet Leoben. In order to determine the morphological evolution of iron ore during the reduction process, a sampling system has been developed. After the definition of a standard-process, six globally traded iron ore fines were tested under the same process conditions. Samples were extracted during the tests and analyzed regarding their chemistry and morphology. The results enable the determination of the morphological evolution of iron ore fines during the reduction in fluidized bed processes.
