Abstract

The main objective of the thesis is to develop a comprehensive programming for controlling and data acquisition as well as a human machine interface monitoring for a pure torsion test rig, which allows static as well as cyclic investigations. Obtained test results from torsion investigations are vital and acts as the input data for multi- axial fatigue life time calculations. The stress ratio during cyclic testing can be chosen individually. The maximum torque is limited to 34Nm. For static tests, a transmission module can be used to provide a torque up to 1kNm. The first part of the thesis gives a comprehensive overview of the basics of torsional testing. This is followed by detailed view of test rig design development, showcasing its components as well as its interaction. The second part of the thesis highlights the programme structures and explains its functions. This thesis also provides a well- documented section that explains the data acquisition and the context between visualization and programming. Finally, the obtained results from the programming tool are well validated using static and dynamic experimental tests. The achieved experimental results of the dynamic tests are presented in a Wöhler curve. Cracks and fracture surfaces were analyzed using light microscopy. At the end, the test results are discussed in detail.
