Translated title of the contribution: Development of a system concept for the production of structural beams

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

Nowadays, the production of trusses still involves a great deal of manual effort, for example, the right cross bar has to be placed in the right position by hand in order to be welded there. Likewise, the use of cranes and roller conveyors without any protective equipment and distances to the workers represents an immense safety risk. An other important aspect is the production time as well as the high personnel effort, which leads to high personnel costs. The machine concept developed in this master's thesis includes, in addition to the complete new development of all machine parts regarding automation, a reduction of the risk of injury to the employees through a precise definition of the danger areas. In the progress of this master thesis, extensive tests were performed regarding to material handling with robots, as well as the pick-up concept for the crossbars, taking all existing sizes under consideration. From this, a new prototype was created, which will be tested soon. This magazine changes the logistics behind the production process enormously, as these magazines now must be filled in the correct assembly sequence. By using a total of eight welding robots and four handling systems, the personnel effort is minimised significantly, which result in cost savings.
