Abstract

This master's thesis develops a demand-oriented material flow logistics concept for auxiliary and operating materials in a newly constructed IC substrate plant. The challenge is to provide auxiliary and operating materials efficiently and in line with demand to avoid bottlenecks and ensure flexible production. The aim of the work is to develop a concept that optimizes the material flow and supports those responsible in their work. First, the theoretical analysis of this topic was carried out using a systematic literature search based on the PRISMA methodology to determine the current state of research in the field of material flow optimization. The research included the identification, selection and synthesis of relevant studies and papers. Key findings show that the use of visualization tools, simulation and the integration of lean management principles can lead to significant improvements in material flow logistics. Furthermore, the applicability and effects of DDMRP (Demand Driven Material Requirement Planning) methods and Industry 4.0 technologies were also investigated in this context. In the practical part of the thesis, a material flow concept was developed for the IC substrate plant in Leoben. Two main delivery routes were described: via a connecting bridge from the existing production plant and via an elevator. The processes were documented in detail and visualized in a PowerBI dashboard using a Sankey diagram and various overview dashboards. An ABC analysis was also carried out to prioritize the materials. The SIPOC/RA(S)CI process descriptions and the capacity calculation showed that material provision in the warehouse takes place faster than storage in production, allowing bottlenecks to be identified and addressed. The implementation of this concept enables improved and transparent planning and control of the material flow, which increases production flexibility and minimizes bottlenecks. The work provides valuable insights and practical recommendations for companies facing similar challenges and contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the field of material flow-related logistics.
