The importance of reusable load carriers and packaging is increasing enormously as they offer the opportunity to reduce costs and emissions. This master thesis therefore deals with the development of a concept for the beneficial use of reusable systems in the context of supplier management within the automotive industry. Furthermore, the thesis includes a qualitative analysis of the factors influencing the cross-divisional processes of reusable packaging and a quantitative evaluation approach. At the beginning of this master thesis, in the theory section, relevant and the concept influencing factors are identified through a structured analysis. Building on this, in the empirical part of this thesis, interdisciplinary expert interviews are conducted to deepen the concept. By discussing the theoretical and practical findings, a holistic and practical perspective is achieved. Finally, an application-orientated derivation of the developed concept is carried out, to apply it to a case study based on the KTM AG. This is done in the form of an economic and ecological analysis. The aim is to check the practical suitability of the concept and to demonstrate a possible procedure for quantifying costs and emissions. This should serve as a basis for decision-making and help to make a decision between disposable and reusable packaging. The concept includes a structured analysis of the potentials and challenges associated with reusable systems and their evaluation methodology. In the case study, a life cycle analysis is applied based on the total cost of ownership principle, in order to take hidden costs into account and carry out a holistic emissions assessment. The result shows how a simple calculation for the estimation of costs and emissions can be carried out and applied in practice. For this case study, the use of reusable packaging is both, more cost-efficient and more sustainable.
