Abstract
The laying of endless chain ropes is a job very seldom appearing in the industry. Mostly continuous chain ropes are limited to lengths of several metres, for example heavy chains for lifting applications. A few companies that produce chains of different geometric dimensions in-house production face the heavy job to transport several hundred metres of a single chain within one specific carrier unit. The main goal is to store and transport these carrier units in-house as efficient as possible. Also for the external-operational transport these chain ropes must be packed in simply manageable transport units. Accordingly, the scientific work deals with the concept development of a new method of laying endless chain strands in appropriate transport containers for in-house as well as for off-site transport. Known methods of laying chains are examined as part of a literature review. In addition, a universally applicable chainwheel for moving different chain strand geometries is developed. Thus working capacities can be freed in view of the economic efficiency by automating the chain laying process, minimizing downtime and increasing the efficiency of the whole production plant. The newly developed concept for laying endless chain ropes offers an ideal starting point for the industrial partner to adapt the acquired concepts from the present work on single industrial sites worldwide.
