    Abstract

For the success of a company, it is decisive to be able to offer the customer a reliable product. If a product is defective, the warranty can quickly result in high costs. To ensure that defects and weak points are discovered before delivery and not only at the place of use, the product must be tested carefully in advance and under the most realistic possible conditions of use. In this master thesis, pre-standardized test procedures, especially environmental test procedures, are presented in a theoretical part. These environmental test procedures make it possible to test the influence of the environment in relation to the durability of products. In the practical part of this master thesis, an environmental test, in particular a pollution test, is consequently carried out on a protection system that is to be operated in surface mining. Solutions and optimizations are sought for the problems discovered. The machine to be tested is a protection system for a measuring device. The measuring device detects the belt thickness without contact by means of ultrasonic sensors, from which the wear of the belt can be concluded. Since the protection system is used in the open pit of an iron ore mine, particularly harsh environmental conditions are expected. For the description of the harsh environmental conditions, a mixing ratio of iron ore, lime, clay, and water is searched for, which has a maximum negative influence on the protection system. Subsequently, the limits and weak points of this protection system are revealed with the harmful mixing ratio.
