Abstract

This thesis deals with the recording and evaluation of the ventilation system in Altaussee of Salinen Austria GmbH and provides an overview of various contamination and fire situations in the mine. Proper ventilation plays a central role not only in the extraction of raw materials, but also in underground public mine exhibitions (active mining in parts of the mine workings, see § 189 MinroG (Bund Österreich 13.05.2022) and show mines (abandoned mines, Show Mine Ordinance (Bund Österreich 02.06.2022)). To ensure safety in show mines, it is necessary to have suitable emergency plans in place to be able to react to possible hazardous scenarios. The task of the thesis is to record and analyze the current ventilation status of the system and to create a simulation model. The defined objective is to use simulations to predict the spread of gases and contaminants and their concentration in the mine. The work is based on theoretical knowledge about mine ventilation and the physical background as well as the recording of the ventilation in the Altaussee mine in cooperation with Salinen Austria GmbH. The task of recording, evaluating, and simulating the ventilation in Altaussee can be accomplished with the help of a 3D model containing ventilation-related information. After defining a measurement plan and recording the ventilation measurements on site, the modeling is carried out in the Ventsim DESIGN software program. The ventilation measurement data can be transferred to the model using the VentLOG add-on package. This is followed by the desired simulations and their analysis. The analysis indicates the areas in which the show mine may be affected by pollutant emissions. The duration of the impact and the number of pollutants injected are the most important factors. The simulations have shown that the external access is well decoupled from the rest of the mine in terms of weather conditions. The main ventilation outlet is located towards the mouth of the Krichbaumberg horizon and does not bypass the external access.
