Abstract

The aim of this Master thesis is the planning of a mine extension for the open pit mine Lieschengraben. The extension area was designed to ensure the supply of 500.000t of diabase annually over a period of 20 years. In a first step, a deposit model was created using the special geology and mine planning software Geovia Surpac™ in order to determine and plan the extension area in the possible manner. Due to the implementation of all data from core drillings from the past 25 years as well as geological recordings of the open pit mine into the deposit model, a good estimation of the extraction volume of valuable mineral and overburden could be made. Several variations of the extension direction were then planned and examined in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. This study showed that the most benefit is obtained by extending the mine to the south. In this area, two possible variations of the mine design were described, which differ slightly in the basic layout. For both variations, the excavation process starts at the top and succeeds downwards mining in slices. The detailed planning illustrates the progress of the mining extension on a yearly basis as well as the final pit. In a further step, different transportation systems were examined for their application in the planned mining extension. Following the exclusion of some transportation systems due to their field of application or due to insufficient conveying capacity, 5 options were analysed in detail. The transportation system gravity shaft, surface rock pass, truck-loader haulage system, RopeCon and material ropeway were considered. On basis of a weighted evaluation matrix, the truck-loader haulage system turned out to be the most suitable.
