In the past explosions of dust air mixtures led to serious accidents in the industry. Besides high property damage, persons can be injured or even killed. To avoid explosions, safety relevant data are necessary. With this data dust should easily be characterized due to its dangerousness. These parameters also have to be comparable. Two very important indicators are maximum pressure pmax and the maximum rate of pressure rise (dp/dt)max. Those parameters are strongly dependent on ignition time and ignition delay. The challenge in the determination of safety relevant data of dust air mixtures is to find the same test conditions, including turbulences. The laminar flame velocity could be the safety relevant parameter which focuses on the material properties during combustion without mass, momentum and energy exchanges. In line with the tubemethode, test equipment was built. Lycopodium was used as model substance and a screw conveyor transported the dust into the combustion pipe. In this thesis the laminar flame velocity is determinated by Andrews`s and Bradley`s equation. Furthermore the influence of the decrease oxygen concentration on the laminar flame velocity is observed. The results of this study are compared with values from literature. Experiments have shown that an improved pilot plant has to be developed.
