Abstract

The aim of this diploma thesis is a comparison of different possible classifications of dents in the context of experiments and FEM (finite element method)-simulations. In general dents are high frequently damages in transport pipelines. They have different causes, such as incorrect embedding or forgotten underlay woods. Additional failure may be caused by third parties and occur as well in the construction of the pipeline itself. At the beginning of this thesis possibilities of finding dents in pipelines are described. In literature there already exists a variety of classifications for dents, which are briefly summarized. Subsequently necessary forces, which causes dents and the geometry of the forming process, have been proofed by tests. For a better understanding of the denting process FEM-simulations were created. Those provide a view inside the construction and therefore results of the stress condition in the dents can be achieved. In fact this thesis should improve the knowledge of the characteristical behavior of dents, to advance effected assessment and should help to choose adequate countermeasure.
