Abstract

The task of this master thesis is to present and analyse different measuring systems that are used for geophysical underground investigations throughout the excavation of tunnels by tunnel boring machines. For a theoretical understanding the relevant basic knowledge of geophysics is explained in the first part of the thesis. It is followed by information concerning functionality, measurement configuration as well as advantages and disadvantages of the different systems. In addition to the literature study the expertise of geophysicists, geologists and geotechnical engineers regarding functionality, detection targets and operating limits is gathered. In order to compare the measuring systems the most important information concerning the field of application, the mounting of equipment and the execution and analysis of the measurement are summarised in tabular form. The aim of the master thesis is to propose an appropriate geophysical exploration system for the Semmering-Basetunnel – section SBT2.1 – Tunnel Fröschnitzgraben. An efficiency analysis is used for the evaluation. The possible combination of geophysical exploration systems with disc force measurements is an additional question dealt with in this thesis. It is examined whether a correlation of the recorded data can contribute to an improvement of the prediction results.
