Abstract

In the future material and energy efficiency will increase in all industrial sectors. A new concept in the production of die forged parts could be welded preforms. Advantages of these would include die forged parts with a less pronounced flash and dimensions, which are closer to final components. Another great advantage would be the possibility to combine various materials, which would be tailored directly to different loads of components. It should be noted, that there are inevitable material inhomogeneities caused by welding. It was the aim of this thesis to investigate if it would be possible to remove these inhomogeneities only by hot forming or whether an additional heat treatment is required. Therefore friction welded samples of two material combinations (combination A: 42CrMo4 / 34CrNiMo6, combination B: C45 / 16MnCrS5) were produced in following conditions: welded, normalized and transformed. In addition to these, material combination A was also considered in the condition normalized + annealed. In samples of all conditions were metallographic examinations and hardness measurements carried out. The mechanical properties and the local deformation behavior were determined in tensile tests. To detect local deformations an optical measurement system was used. The results indicated, that it is possible to eliminate material inhomogeneities by hot forming alone as well as by normalizing.
