Abstract

The aim of this Master thesis is to investigate the transportation of plastic waste, in the form of flakes, with the help of a hydraulic transportation system. The feeding of the flakes into, as well as the unloading of the flakes out of, the hydraulic transportation system will also be considered. First, the fundamentals, the set up, and the pros and cons of hydraulic transportation is discussed. Furthermore, the factors that influence the hydraulic transportation system are studied. Additionally, the conveyed goods, which consist of the plastic flakes, and their different preparation variants, are examined. After this examination, the hydraulic transportation system is designed. This includes determining the exact location of the system and deciding on the transportation liquid. Following this, the optimal transportation concentration of plastic flakes via a hydraulic transportation system is calculated. Next, the different variants of feeding systems for a hydraulic transportation system are analyzed, and the optimal variant, under the consideration of the plastic flakes, is suggested. Similarly, the unloading mechanisms are examined, and a suggestion for the optimal variant is given. Finally, an economic and ecological analysis of the hydraulic conveying system is carried out to investigate the economic viability and environmental impact of the system.
