Abstract

The Lower Oligocene in the Molasse basin is divided from bottom to top into Schöneck, Dynow, Eggerding and Zupfing formations. The Eggerding Formation, about 40 m thick, consists in its lower part of shaly marlstone with up to 6.0% organic carbon (TOC) and white bands, which are rich in coccolithophorides. The upper part of the Eggerding Formation consists of a homogenous sequence of marly shale with about 1.65% TOC. Calcite and TOC contents in the Zupfing Formation are about 30% and
