Abstract
On the one hand, the field of construction logistics is a comparably young field in the scientific approach of logistics and especially literature to the principal’s point of view is hard to find. On the other hand, the complexity of construction projects and the logistic effort are rising. The success of construction projects depends on planning, project organisation and work preparation. Especially this fields are the ones, a principal has influence on and can be improved by standardised logistic processes. The assignment of this thesis is to define and summarize logistical tasks of a principal in big construction projects. Therefor theoretical aspects are worked out on the project “Walzwerk Neu” of the voestalpine Austria Draht GmbH. For this purpose, the first chapter of this thesis gives an introduction to the subject and shows relevant research issues. In the following theoretical knowledge about construction logistics and process management is collected and summarized. Chapter four gives an introduction to the project “Walzwerk Neu” and its logistical challenges. Finally concrete processes are presented which help principals to manage their tasks in the field of construction logistics in big projects. As support for these processes some checklists, documents and forms are developed in the framework of this thesis. They are described in chapter five and listed exemplarily in the annex. Another main result of this thesis is a construction logistics handbook, a guideline and overview of logistic requirements and framework conditions for contracted partners of VAAD. This results of the thesis should not only support the current project “Walzwerk Neu” but furthermore standardise the logistic processes for future projects.
