Abstract
A company from the railroad industry is confronted with increasing sales figures in the next few years, which can't be realized with the current capacities at the location. To be able to produce these production volumes, a logistics concept was developed to increase the productive area, because an expansion of the site is not possible. One sub-project is the outsourcing of the shipping process. In the course of this master thesis, the first step is to determine the corresponding theoretical framework conditions for the outsourcing of logistics processes. Since other criteria are considered in addition to costs when making an outsourcing decision, the theoretical review also considers the topics of materials management, change management and decision theory. This knowledge is applied to the outsourcing of the shipping department of the company. Aims of this master thesis are the feasibility analysis and collection of different outsourcing alternatives. The literature was collected with the help of systematic literature research, which is based on the model according to KUMAR, R.. For the practical implementation, the first step is the analysis of the stakeholders and the derivation of a communication matrix. This is followed by a process survey in the form of individual interviews with the relevant process participants. Various outsourcing alternatives were derived from these surveys. These were evaluated with the help of a decision matrix.
