Abstract
The development and qualification of new materials for the use in advanced composite compounds application is very time-consuming and capital-intensive. There are efficient test concepts on the basis of application-relevant key characteristic values which can be defined on the level of non strenghtened matrix materials. On the one hand these values serve for optimization of materials and on the other hand as a basis for the assessment of the critical properties such as compression strength and damage tolerance. The develop of the thermo-mechanical and fracture mechanical basis data of four epoxy resin matrix materials, which are in use, results from production and application specific influencing factors as rehardening and moisture effects. Thereby no significant rehardening effects of the developed thermo-mechanical and fracture mechanical key characteristic values could be determined. For the thermo-mechanical values a similar E-modul level at dry condition were discovered. Under wet condition the antiplasticizing effect led to an increase of the E-modul level at a temperature range below -10 °C. Explicite material-specific differences could be established for the glass transition temperature. The fracture mechanical requirements were, compared with declaration of the literature, on a marginal higher level. For the dry condition the values caused, with exclusion of one material, not significant higher.
