Plastic rollers are used in many areas of daily life and are indispensable. Their applica-tions are as equally diverse as the applied design criteria. Rollers, consisting of a tire and a hub are used in elevators and escalators but also in shuttle systems in intralogis-tics facilities and are produced with different materials and material combinations. Searching for new material combinations can be challenging due to the numerous re-quirements, as complex component testing to qualify the materials has to be done. This process is very cost- and also time consuming and ties up important resources. In this thesis, options for less complex and cheaper as well as quicker executed materi-al tests on a specimen scale are searched to deliver ideally significant results for the assignment on the component scale. Therefore, with the evaluation of the wear, com-pression set, tear resistance as well as peel strength of a two component (2K) test spec-imen, four testing methods were selected which represent relevant parameters for plastic rollers. These tests were carried out using sixteen materials from different groups of thermoplastic elastomers. On the component scale, preselected material combinations were analyzed in a roller peel-test and on a roller test stand, increasing load runs were carried out. The results show that individual materials can be used for new roller applications, mostly under certain restrictions. Another point that was ob-served when looking at the comparison of the two peeling tests is, that the peel strength value for every tested material combination is higher in roller tests than in the 2K specimen tests, but the trend for both testing methods shows good accordance, so that, based on the two-component test, a good predictability of the roller behavior is given. The tear resistance has proved to be an interesting criterion for the execution of the peeling tests. The tests carried out on the roller test stand, where an increasing load per time is applied, provides information of the maximum load level and duration until the rollers fail. With the data from the tests carried out, material combinations for future applications can be selected and put into use after additional testing. The results of the temperature measurements on the roller test stand can be accompanied by further tests like the dynamic mechanic analysis (DMA), considered in designing and engineering rollers in the future. An approach for a quicker and more cost-efficient selection of new material combinations was shown and initiated in this thesis.
