Abstract
The general objective of this master thesis is to investigate on the fields of application, requirements, benefits and constraints of simulations and emulations, which shall be used as a mean of pre-validation when developing and implementing new storage facilities. Therefore it is especially important to distinguish between the different views of the system provider and the customer. To achieve this general objective case studies about the concrete use of simulation and emulation will be analyzed. Furthermore a survey concerning the use of these methods in Austrian companies will be performed. All the gained information will serve as basis for the development of a procedure model about the use of emulations. The focus of this model will be the concrete and efficient execution of emulations including preparations for doing so.
