Providing material at the workplaces in an appropriate way is a central task of production logistics and is essential to achieve efficient production processes. Wherever possible, companies use standardized load carriers to handle transports. However, components with special dimensions that cannot be arranged on standard load carriers make the use of special load carriers necessary. This paper deals with the planning and conceptual design of special load carriers for use in the operations of voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace GmbH. Based on the theory of design methodology, a concrete procedure is worked out, which is then used in the practical application of load carrier development. In the empirical part of the thesis, after a detailed analysis of the initial situation, a list of requirements for new load carriers is drawn up. These requirements serve as a guideline for the development of the concepts. As a result of the present thesis, models and descriptions of the load carriers are presented, which can subsequently be transferred to prototype construction. The development of load carriers is based on logistical standards to ensure the dimensional coordination of the load carriers with the existing transport and storage equipment. Another central aspect of the design is to be able to produce the load carriers easily and with little time and material expenditure. The designed concepts are therefore rigid compartment constructions with a rectangular base area, the dimensions of which are oriented to the basic logistical dimensions. The load carriers are suitable for the orderly and damage-free transport of the material with the most efficient use of the loading space.
