Abstract
Products and their descriptive data are the economic foundation and business value of a manufacturing company. The product data consists of a lot of accumulated company and specialized product knowledge, so it has to be treated very careful. Regarding Product Lifecycle Managment, every implementation and migration project has the goal to keep this knowlege alive and make it available and reusable for innovative product developments. That's the reason why nearly every PLM project has to deal with a datamigration project. Just a few companies can give up their established knowledge and data and start their PLM project without any constraints. Complex product data usually requires individual designed migration solutions. The possibility to accomplish a consistent takeover of the required data is a very crucial and even sometimes the key factor for successful datamigration projects. Beside a lot of risks there is also the chance for some improvements to gain advantages of adjusted and cleaned up data. The masterthesis “Migration komplexer Produktdatenbestände” compares existing data migration strategies concerning the usage for complex CAD data migration projects. It provides decision support for upcoming projects and a practically implemented migration strategy for complex product data.
