The present thesis deals with rock pressure tunnels and the stresses and strains on their lining as well as in the surrounding rock based on numerical analyses. The thesis focusses on the development of an innovative approach to depict the installation of support elements in underground engineering. Various aspects when selecting the alignment and linings of hydropower plants in general as well as factors in favour of an unlined performance are presented and discussed.
