On the Simulation of Bearing Faults in Induction Machines

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

The relatively high prevalence of bearing faults in electrical machines demand on-line monitoring of the machine’s operating data to ensure both high reliability and efficiency and avoid unwanted breakdowns. This paper deals with simulating bearings (5 DOF-model) in conjunction with an induction machine. The main objective therefore is to obtain a deeper understanding of how a faulty bearing affects both the entire bearing and the machine with respect to the vibration signal and additional frictional torque. Furthermore, different shapes of spalls on the raceway are then being described, examined and compared to each other.
