Abstract
This thesis evaluates possibilities for the optimization of an existing scrap yard. Actually approximately 1100 t/a aluminium scrap and approximately 2500 t/a steel scrap are processed at this yard, installed in 2011. Targets of the measures to be evaluated are to (at least) double the throughput of the plant and to increase the quality of the products. It was found that high potentials exists quality wise. Additional equipment shall be installed at different locations in the processing plant to make better use of these potentials. The installation of these aggregates involves an easing of the burden to existing machinery, which allows for higher throughput rates. Another effect of these add-ons is that this machinery allows for additional, new input material ensuring the achievement of above mentioned objectives. Financial investigations were undertaken in parallel to the technical analysis. Due to higher revenues, most machines to be installed will compensate their investments in a short time. The application with the highest payback times were probed for their sensitivity for changes in price and/or changes in throughput amounts.
