Abstract

The logistic capability of the spare part business of the MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG plays an important role for the whole business unit and supports sustainable customer loyalty. The most important key indicator to measure the performance of a distribution centre is the delivery reliability. This master thesis is divided into the following three parts: description of the current situation; weak point analysis; concept of an improved job controlling. In preparing the as-is-analysis, the author describes the main processes of the outbound flows in the logistics center Dachau, beginning with the order release, continuing with the picking over to the packaging and shipping. The subsequent analysis of the current situation helps to identify improvement potentials. In this connection, the following weak spots can be identified: uncoordinated order release and triggering internal and external storage areas; job controlling independently from the order priority; irregular utilisation of the capacity; high number of packages and delivery splits; high throughput time in case of standard orders; missing transparency of the material flow in the packaging and shipping zone. To prevent these weak spots, the author develops a concept for an improved job controlling by using the analogy of the load dependent order release in connection with the backorder-oriented control. The analogy of the load dependent order release selects orders according to priority, and the assignment of flexible capacities ensures the coordination between the available capacities with the capacity requirements. The concept gets supplemented with additional improvement methods.
